In this corresponding tournament last year, Luke Corcoran came agonisingly close to winning the handicap category of Division 1, this year he is in contention of the overall (gross) Division 1 lead.

With the final round having been played on Thursday (after the Tribune went to press), Corcoran was coming fourth overall and within striking distance of the overall lead.
He would have needed a strong finish at the Federal but gave himself every chance after a brilliant round in Wednesday's Yass Nursery Junior Open.
Corcoran shot a four over round of 72 to close the gap on the leaders. Although he was content with how he has been playing throughout the week, the Yass local was ruing missed opportunites in the stand-alone Yass Open.
"I only missed out on winning today by two shots," he told the Tribune after his sizzling round.
"It was challenging today though, everyone found it pretty difficult and the pin positions were tough."
Josh Hunter, based out of Fairbairn Golf Club, was the winner on the day. The 16-year-old shot 70 and said he enjoyed the course.
"Yeah I've played here a lot, I really like it. The greens were good and it was a challenging day but luckily I holed a few important putts."
The Tribune also caught up with another Yass golfer Daniel Kemp, who last year was leading Division 2 in the early stages of the tournament.
The 16-handicapper said it was difficult when the rain turned up.
"Yeah it was pretty wet, that was the hardest thing when it started raining half way through our round," he said.
"I played to my handicap so I was pretty happy but I played a lot better yesterday."
The Yass Open was again a great success and hopefully the Yass Golf Club has cemented regular hosting rights of the ACT/Monaro Junior Week of Golf.
