It has been an incredible turn around for the school, which was told in March this year that the Catholic Education Office intended to close the secondary component (Years 7-10) at the end of 2014.
Last Wednesday night, approximately 100 people were told at the community meeting/AGM that a lease had been signed between Mt Carmel College Ltd and the parish for the secondary school to use the current buildings in 2015.
Assuming the Board of Studies gives the green light upon inspection in mid August, the school will offer Years 7-10 next year, Year 11 in 2016 and Year 12 in 2017.
"We are currently working on the Board of Studies application and making sure everything is in order for their inspection on the 19th or 20th of August," secretary of the Board of Directors Kim Gourlay said.
"We have the basic constitution but now we have to set up rules for how it will be governed.
"They will just be checking that the buildings are up to scratch and things like that but we are confident that we will have all the boxes ticked."
The Board of Directors was also formed at the community meeting, with 10 people including Councillor Ann Daniel and Father Mick Burke elected to head the committee.
Mrs Gourlay beamed when asked about the meeting.
"It just regalvanised everybody," she explained.
"After four months of pushing you get really tired, and then you have a meeting like that where you get to give good news to everyone and you get this renewed energy. There has just been an injection of excitement."
Once Mt Carmel College Ltd has been granted approval they can start taking enrolments for next year and Mrs Gourlay is confident that the direction of the board will encourage many to continue their tenure at the school.
"Given the support we've had there will still be a good number of students for next year and we'll hire the necessary staff to meet the demand."
