Hocking swam a Games record two minutes and 7.24 seconds to win Sunday's final of the women's 200m backstroke. She beat out compatriot Emily Seebohm and Canada’s Hilary Caldwell to take top spot on the podium. It comes after her bronze medal success in the 100 metre sister event earlier in the week.
Belinda and her family moved to Murrumbateman in 2007 to be close to the Australian Institute of Sport and she stayed for over five years. After the London Games she relocated to Melbourne and is currently plying her trade at the Victorian Institute of Sport.
She told Fairfax the experience was almost better than meeting the Queen last week.
"I think I have done quite well this week - it has been quite surreal," the six year national team veteran said.
Hocking burst onto the scene at the 2008 Beijing Games when she qualified for the 200 metre backstroke final at just 17 years of age.
Hocking has registered impressive results over the last couple of years including her silver-medal swim she managed at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona. She’s also won five consecutive national titles. She’ll next swim at the Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast in late-August.
