It was a tough see-sawing match versus the Vikings, which ended in a 30-point draw. The result sees the two teams share the under 9 Division 2 premiership. Yass started fantastically with a length of the field try from Callum Carniel. The Vikings hit back with a try of their own.
Some bruising defence followed from Thomas Anderson and Joseph McCarter, which forced a turnover and Darcy smith showed some great speed to score Yass' second try. The Vikings hit back within minutes and Yass was denied a further two tries controversially.
The Vikings then scored a late try to lead at the halftime break by one try. The opening minutes of the first half saw three crunching tackles from Max Crozier, Joseph Walsh and Jamie Glover. The Vikings took advantage of Yass being a player down and extended the lead to 30-10.
Full of determination Jessie Brooks was unlucky not to score. In the next eight minutes, Darcy Smith ran in three tries for the Rams, to leave them trailing by just five points. Billie Walls was unlucky not to score after four great runs and good defence from Billie Walls saw Lachlan Wales clear the ball quickly to Spencer Allen. Winning a penalty Spencer took a quick tap and scored a great try in the corner which may see him called into the Australian gymnastics team!
The try sealed a well earned 30-all draw and a premiership, a great effort from our young Rams! Man of the match was Darcy Smith. The match was enjoyed and supported by a strong group from Yass led by our club patrons Ken and Sue White. Special thanks also to team sponsors Alloura Angus Stud, Kalari Border Leicester, Home Timber & Hardware and PlantsPlus Yass.
Special thanks to our coaches Jason Carniel and Steve McCarter, as well as manager Nick Anderson for guiding the boys through the season. The premiership winning team will be looking for more players in 2015. See you next year!
