Why vote, why take part in the political process, why join a political party, why join the Greens? It amazes me how many people in this country simply do not vote.

It seems that they simply can’t be bothered. Sometimes they have a valid reason but most of the time they simply could not care less. People have died to have the right to vote, women had to fight to get the vote, and yet today the number of people who do not vote is high and that I think is hard to take in. Plus you have people who vote “informal”. They make stupid comments on the voting slip and somehow think it’s smart. Worst of all is the “Donkey voter”.
Having worked many an election polling booth over the years, you can almost pick them when they come to the polling booth. They flip, flap, flop, their way in, acting as if the world is being asked of them, that the impost on their time is huge, and it’s all a waste of time anyway. You just know they are going to vote 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. I think it is a terrible waste and wish it was different. I encourage people to take part in the political process, to at least vote. I want you to vote Green, I want you to vote for Iain Fyfe in this upcoming state election in the seat of Goulburn, however having said that it would be good if everybody voted, and no donkey votes, regardless of the outcome for any political party.
Speaking of political parties, this mad Abbott Liberal government, will go down as the worst government this country has ever seen. The Prime Minister is singing the praises of coal, how great it is, how it is our future. The world listens and thinks “what rubbish”. Renewables are the way forward, the rest of the world knows that but not this Liberal government.
The 1.5 per cent pay offer to our defence personnel is appalling, the pay offer to the public service is just as bad, expecting unemployed people to live on nothing for six months is nuts to say the least. The list just goes on and on, and I fear it will get worse.
People can say what they like about the Greens, we at least have a social conscience, the Liberal party does not! All they want is money and power.
