Yass Valley Mayor Rowena Abbey was on hand to speak with the small but excited crowd.
“This is an excellent service for the people of Yass as well as for people in Binalong, Bookham, Bowning and Murrumbateman.
“With fares starting at $2.50 and pick up and drop off points wherever you request, it makes getting around town an easy option for everyone,” Mayor Abbey said.
Yass Valley Home Living Support Coordinator Lynette Moore has been happy with the way the bus has started.
“The people who have used the bus have really enjoyed the service and most have recommended their friends use it. We encourage everyone to try it once, see how easy it is and to share the news,” Ms Moore said.
Transport Project Officer Alison Beresford and staff from Yass Valley Home Living Support Service, Jane Cartwright and Trudy Price spent the morning handing out information and balloons, telling people about the 2582 bus.
“Most people I spoke to about it had heard of the bus, mostly from the radio. It’s great that people know about this bus, now we have to get more people to use it, with fares starting from $2.50 it could be cheaper than driving your own car or paying a friend to drive you, and, with the bus, you don’t have the parking worries.” Ms Moore said.
