I've just received a message from our local Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor, in which he reflects on the extraordinary past year in politics.
As one would expect, the letter tries to put a positive spin on the performance of what is easily the worst Prime Minister we've ever had and, just as certainly, our most inept government. If Angus was being honest and in good conscience, he could hardly be in praise of the cruel and heartless'Stop the Boats' campaign, where asylum seekers are denied rights under the UN Refugee Protocols of which Australia is a signatory. The shameful fact is that there are still hundreds of children imprisoned in detention camps and on Manus Island and Nauru.
Angus also mentions the armed forces to which his government gave a wage increase of less than the cost of living and which received a legitimate roasting from none other than that garrulous Tasmanian, Senator Jackie Lambie. When she begins to make sense, it just goes to show how awry his government really is!
He also refers to the disastrous Budget which has steadily fallen apart since its presentation back in May and he mentions the recent G20 conference and claims that the world can see us positively through Abbott's gauche performance and his attempts to keep climate change, which he has described as 'crap', off the agenda. His intentions here were totally negated by the agreement between China and the US to implement a policy against global warming!
Angus is a new boy on the block and, if he has principles, vision and integrity, then his inner self must blush with shame at the performance of his party and particularly at the horrific bias of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bronwyn Bishop, who has turned the already distorted Westminster system on its ear with her waspish schoolmarmish approach in a total betrayal of the important role that is hers.
Angus advisedly makes no mention of the broken promises which Prime Minister Abbott made just before the 2013 elections on Medicare and health, cuts to education, the ABC or SBS or to pensions all of which rank as lies up there with Julia Gillard's "No carbon tax"!
Angus, it's a delightful photograph of you, Louise and the children and you should be thankful that they've not been subjected the horrors of the children imprisoned by your government.
Season's Greetings!!!
PS. Since I wrote this letter the siege of Sydney has begun and I am sickened that jihad has come so dramatically to our country. I totally abhor this and my loyalty is completely with the Prime Minister as he leads the nation in this crisis.
