The free Tour is part of an initiative by the NSW Government to build excitement in Regional NSW for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and also promote the sport of cricket and in the State’s regional communities.
Sydney will play a major part in the staging of the tournament by hosting three pool matches including South Africa v West Indies, Australia v Sri Lanka, England v Afghanistan, a Quarter Final and a Semi Final at the SCG.
Tuesday January 20, local kids got the latest cricket tips from Cricket NSW, and were able to view Cricket World Cup memorabilia from the famous Bradman Museum as well as a giant inflatable replica of the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy.
As part of the Home Ground Cricket Tour a twilight Legends vs Young Guns T20 cricket match was played at Victoria Park.
Former Australian fast bowler and 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup winner Andy Bichel said the event was a fantastic opportunity to get the local community excited for next year’s tournament.
“It’s great for me to be here and tell my story to these kids and hopefully inspire them to play cricket,” Bichel said.
“It’s also special to be in Yass 24 days out from the World Cup, and give kids the opportunity to enjoy it.”
The traveling roadshow is visiting a total of 27 locations throughout Regional NSW this summer.
