He said Greens politicians give it to voters straight, care about the environment and are vocal about health in the regional areas, with a focus on business-related issues.
“The bottom line is that we aren’t trying to come up with new tricks, we’re just trying to be straight, be honest, be trustworthy and just say it like it is,” he said.
The state election is scheduled for March 28 and locals will have a chance to meet Mr Fyfe and NSW Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon at a special campaign launch on Saturday night. Mr Fyfe revealed he was going to run a stall on Comur Street and do some door-knocking during the day as well.
“I think door-knocking really is … one of the most effective ways of talking to people face-to-face and I think people appreciate it because I really get people’s feelings expressed to me,” he said.
The Gundaroo man, who was born in Canberra and works in the public service, will be running for the third straight time and he’s confident it will be his best showing yet.
“With our approach, which is just straight down the line, we are getting increased support from voters there is no question about that. I know for a fact that at the last election we went up a couple of percentage points, so there is no doubt people are recognising us a major political force.”
He also said the federal government’s recent popularity slump will help his campaign’s cause.
“I know in Victoria we picked up a couple of seats there, while we didn’t get any seats in Queensland I know we increased our vote and we certainly made a huge difference. I read an article that said the Greens preferences was probably what got Labor over the line up there.
“I think yeah Tony Abbott has contributed to the increase but that’s not the only reason.”
He also refused to concede that the newly formed Goulburn electorate was a safe Liberal seat.
“There is a lot of effort going into getting rid of that myth that it is a safe seat for the Coalition because we’ve found that there is no such thing anymore. Things have changed in politics and I think everybody is well aware of that.”
