A total of 297 fish were measured by the marshals over the 13.5 hrs of fishing. Eleven teams managed a full bag each session.
Jamie Loomes and Paul Brown took out first place for the second competition in a row, with a total length of 5222mm followed in 2nd place by Tim and Matt Papworth just 67mm behind. Most of the teams fished trees in 30-plus foot of water from the Yass River Junction back to Scrubby. The biggest yellow belly for the weekend measured in at 60cm. The average size was 409mm.
We also hosted two other fishing clubs over the weekend, with the general consensus being tough fishing. Trolling for yellows has been slow with most fish holding deep on trees. The bait fisherman have been fairing better amongst the timber.
Murray Cod: not a lot of reports this week, however trolling bigger lures and spinner baits remains your best chance of landing a fish. The lures need to be bumping the bottom so lure selection will govern trolling depth. The Murray cod will be looking to bulk up before winter as the water begins to cool off. The outflows have also slowed to normal levels hopefully leaving plenty of water for Easter.
Redfin: are quiet, with only the odd fish being caught.
Carp: plenty being caught on worms, corn, bread and even fly.
Park news: 30,000 yellow belly and 30,000 silver perch fingerlings were released this week at Burrinjuck Dam along, with releases to both the Yass Dam and Yass weir.
