Despite being down to nine men due to two send-off offences, Burns was the only side able to make a breakthrough in the second half, and locked things up with just ten minutes remaining.
Redback John Cover found the back of the net with a spot kick early in the first half in Giralang and while Burns did equalize, an impressive goal from John Mannweiller gave Yass the advantage at halftime.
In a tough second stanza, Yass struggled to build any continuity and at some stages looked to be the team that was affected by numbers.
Then, a perfectly-placed Burns free-kick late in the game meant the sides shared the spoils.
Rex Stacey was best for Yass, after he was kept busy in goals throughout the match.
In the Division 6 fixture Yass bounced back to form, proving too good for a tough Belnorth outfit.
The men started strongly and were awarded a number of corners to start the game. They eventually made the most of it, with central playmaker Stuart Bradshaw heading home.
Despite his strong start to the day things went downhill for Bradshaw, after a rolled ankle forced him to sit out and watch both games from the sideline.
Youngster Bradley Nielson continued his goal-happy form, scoring in the first and second halves to essentially wrap it up for Division 6. The final score was Yass 3 defeating Belnorth 1.
Oliver Watson was voted Players' Player, for the second time in as many weeks.
Coach Gary Lennon said he was happy with the performances of both sides.
"We really concentrated on corners at training so to score our first goal from a corner was very satisfying," he said.
"At the start of the first game that's what I stressed so for them to go out and do that was great.
"Both teams did pretty well and while there is work to do, we're in a good place at the moment for sure."
The Yass women had a mixed weekend against ANU, with division three winning 2-0, but division four going down 4-1.
The division three girls started the game strongly, with Amalie Birkhol grabbing both goals in the first half.
Goalkeeper Belle Green and fullback Amy Alley both had strong games, and were both named Players' Player.
Coach Ingrid Davis is satisfied with where her side sits at this point in the season.
"The most impressive thing from my point of view was the way we played as a team. Technically it was a bit scrappy at times and it got a bit physical, but the ladies never once lost their cool," she told the Tribune.
"The ladies know where they are meant to be on the field and what they need to do ... and the experience of the players and maturity really showed this week.
"There are still things we need to work on but the team is really looking good at half way through the season."
While the second grade side lost in a tough match there were some standout players. Denise Curtis was a notable performer, after backing up from a big showing in the division three game.
Amalie Birkhol made it a grand total of three goals for the day, scoring second grade's only goal of the match.
On Saturday the men will host Lanyon, with matches kicking off at 1pm. The women have the weekend off.
