Yass took the game by eight runs in the final over in a nail-biter against Wagga at Robertson Oval, denying the home side back-to-back titles.
Yass won the toss and elected to bat on a dry pitch with a quick outfield. Daniel Poidevin (29) and Andrew Forth (29) got the innings off to a good start but it was Nick Pollack who proved to be the difference on the day.
Batting at six, Pollack blasted his way to 81 as he accelerated the run rate late in the innings. The big hitter scored 45 off three overs, belting boundaries all over the park and treating the crowd to a masterclass.
Pollack was well supported in the tail end by Tim Hazell (12), Brent Poidevin (20) and Beau Walker (24 no).
Yass went to the lunch break with a final score of 227 for eight wickets in the 50th over.
Chasing 228 for the win, Wagga’s Jon Nicholl was the mainstay of the innings, scoring an unbeaten century for his side. Nicholl kept his side in the game until the very end with the home side requiring less than 10 runs an over in the final three overs to remain unbeaten in the competition this season.
Craig Irwin had other ideas, however, taking three scalps for 53 runs for Yass and closing out the innings.
In the end, Wagga was left seven runs short on eight wickets for 220.
Daniel Poidevin (2/17) and Billy Bolger (2/51) chipped in with two wickets each as Yass claimed its eighth Stribley Shield.
It was the seventh time in the last 10 years that Yass has won the competition and the third time they’ve beaten Wagga at its home ground in a decider.
Captain David Field praised his team and said “it was a good win against a tough side”.
