Is it because affluence and technology are things to be afraid of? Is it because these things bring terrorists closer to our part of the world? Is it because we now know of more things to worry about? Is it because the ‘modern world’ loads more and more expectations on us and we just can’t take the stress?

All of these things could be a part of it. When I was a lad there was the Cold War and we worried about the potential of a nuclear holocaust. That is still on the cards, but there is so much more now, from Ebola to religious extremism and violent death.

Jesus said worry doesn’t make anyone live longer or grow taller. The Bible says that when God comes into our lives we will grow fruit like love, joy and peace. It also says that the peace will go beyond logic. It is based on His love, not our efforts. It is based on His position and strength joining with our openness and acceptance. It is a relationship thing.

So far, mankind’s efforts have not really given us the peace we need, and I doubt it ever will. Fear, worry and depression are things that paralyse us into inaction.

Why not make the choice to ask Him in? Take the step. Get right with the Creator and the universe. He said He would be with us always. There is a fantastic future.

I’m excited about that. It gets me out of bed each morning with hope and expectation. I can do anything I need to do, as long as I have my Dad.
