"It was fascinating to see such a diverse group of professional sheep breeders, all driven to produce a type of sheep they believe suits their individual property and management style, and will ensure their prosperity into the future, " Chris Kilby, Wool Steward of the Gunning Show, said.
"Despite a tough summer leaving most ewes in lighter condition than last year, the judges Kim Henderson and Michael Peden were very impressed with the flocks on display."
Over 100 people gathered at the Gunning Show on Sunday February 22 to hear the results and inspect a sample of sheep from the top five place winners.
Congratulations to the 2016 competition winners Andrew and Anne Basnett of “Nerragundah”. The judges were very impressed with their well-grown and even run of maiden ewes.
Further results were: Peter, Maureen and Matt Hewitt, “Allamby”, second; Chris and Sarah Kilby, “Raeburn", third; Jack and Jenny Medway, “Hillcrest”, fourth and Dowling Pastoral, “Narragolong”, fifth. The Future Development Award went to Lerida Pastoral Company.
The Flock Ewe committee gratefully acknowledges all of their generous local sponsors. The winner and runner up will now compete in the Southern Tablelands Flock Ewe championship on March 15.
