Canberra man, Stewart Pasfield and Ann-Marie Randell, from Parkes, began their long journey last Monday on May 9 that would see them walk the 321km from Parkes to Canberra, with Yass marking 230km into their trip.
“We are doing this to raise funds for the Cancer Council,” Ann-Marie said.
“Last year, my cousin and Stewart’s partner, Annie Lymbrery, was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. This was in June, she passed away some short months later in November.
“It was such a shock to everyone that knew her. It was really that we had no idea and then were given such a short amount of time with her when we found out.”
Anne Lymbery was 62 years old when she passed away, leaving behind her partner, Stewart, of 10 years and four beautiful children.
“When she was diagnosed she was only given a few weeks. With only her pure will and determination to live and beat the cancer, along with radiation treatment, she was able to spend some precious time with friends and family. Still, she was taken too soon,” Ann-Marie continued.
Thanks to this journey, Ann-Marie has been recognised by the Cancer Council as the Ambassador for Central West NSW.
“It’s a huge honour, I wouldn’t have thought this would lead to anything except raising awareness of this form of cancer and how important funding is for research.”
The pair have walked from Parkes through Eugowra, Canowindra, Cowra, Boorowa, Harden and into the Yass Valley to Bowning, Yass and Murrumbateman, to be in Parliament House this Saturday, May 21.
Ann-Marie plans to do a special walk every two years to raise funds for cancer research.
Both Ann-Marie and Stewart have successfully raised over $2500 and hopes the amount will grow over the next few days.
