The mighty under 6’s Kaveney Earthworks Magpies travelled to Queanbeyan for the second time this year and had a tough encounter with the Queanbeyan Kangaroos in a very entertaining game of junior footy. The two sides played in good spirit and they both had a lot of fun but the result didn’t go our way going down 7 tries to 4 in the end.
“Hat-trick Hero” Seth Olah was our Magpie man of the match this week with his best game of the year so far, not only for his 3 tries, with one of them he ran the whole field to score it with some amazing speed. Xander Vea scored our only other try of the day with some great footwork, but my highlight from the day was Harry Waters And Cooper Barton with their straight hard running and great some textbook tackling. In saying that all the kids were fantastic in defence on the day.

For the Pateman Power Solutions under 7’s Magpies third time lucky rang true for them this past weekend with their third straight win of the season with a 20 – 8 score line over the South Tuggeranong Knights Red team.
The scoring was opened with William Hall stepping through the opposition to land a well-deserved try. After that it was a ‘Jack’ show with Jack Jamieson and Jack Ryan running in two tries each and tackling anything that moved.
Alex Bell topped the tackle count again this week with Sutherland Holliday, Eli Cassidy and Takai Kristiansen-Chatfield strong in defence and not far behind.
The two newcomers continue to improve each week. Kane Mitchell’s enthusiasm and battling through niggling injuries earned him the Yass Outdoor Sports & Camping player of the week trophy and Brock Lenon started to get into the play making a few runs and tackles this week.
A strong and consistent approach in both attack and defence should continue to keep the boys on track! Best of all, they all walk off smiling.

The weekend saw the Performance Windows under 8 Magpies venture to Canberra to play the mighty Gungahlin Bulls at Nicholls. The Bulls defence was too strong for the Magpies this week taking the game 46-0. Our boys hopes were never diminished just making them more determined to hold our defence strong next week against Queanbeyan United.

The Tanks Bakery sponsored under 9’s travelled to play the Knights last Sunday.
The coaches changed around the positions this week to let the kids press their claims for permanent positions.
Yass lost hard man Oscar early and missed his charges but Kyle stood up and took up where he left off last week making plenty of metres and making many a tackle.
Josh’s initiation to footy continued with him taking a very heavy shot but he bounced back to his feet and was menacing out of dummy half in the first half.
Denver got his chance at first receiver and showed his promise with some galloping runs.
Kylan was defending well in the middle and was involved in attack.
Joey’s running game has come to fruition and was dangerous every touch.
Thomas showed the benefit of running hard and straight by making good metres.
Baxton once again proving to be a good addition to the team and this week rallied his troops well in the yellow bib.
Connor was everywhere in attack and pulled off several of his usual try saving tackles at the back highlighting his defensive capabilities.
Will’s running is a highlight and a needed component that the team needs coming out of trouble and he had his kicking boots on to convert our try.
Sean Bell excelled when called upon to be dummy half and his quick thinking resulting in him getting his first meat pie for the year and collecting the trophy for the week.

Last weekend the Amaroo Coloured Wool under 10 Magpies took on a strong Goulburn Blue side.
Jackson Carr, Dane Howard, Ben Martens and Tony Davis all ran onto the ball well, making good ground up the middle.
Riley Bateup and Jazz Carey were both very busy out of the dummy half with Josh Barry working well in both attack and defence.
Ultimately, Goulburn Blue’s defence was too strong for our boys with Yass going down 16 – 0.
Man of the Match went to Jackson Carr who is “killing it” in his first season of rugby league.

The Yass under 11 Hi Way Motor Inn boys put on a superb first half performance over the North Canberra Bears at Kaleen, coming up with 3 tries and 3 goals by the half time break.
Joe scored his first try for the season with a quick dummy half move close to the try line, Daniel scored out wide, and Lane pushed through the defence to get his first of the day.
In the second half, the Bears had the ball for the majority of the half, however Timmy scored one of his usual impressive tries, and Lane punished the defence with another barnstorming try.
Noah had his first game with the team, showing some very strong defence, coming away with 10 tackles, and putting on some great runs.
Lane put on some massive hits in defence coming up with 14 tackles, with Timmy showing some old school around the ankle one-on-one tackling, putting together 20 tackles.
Luke, Tyson, Damon, Coby, Billie, Cameron and Will, all contributed to the tackle count with some high tackles statistics in defence.
In total, our defence was really good considering the amount of ball the opposing had, with the team racking up 98 tackles for the game.
Try scorers were: Lane (x2), with one each going to Daniel, Timmy and Joe.
We never missed a conversion all game, with goals going to Coby, Cameron, Lane, Noah and Timmy.
It was a close call for man of the match, but Timmy was just awesome in defence and attack, so he took home the award this week.
At full time, Yass won 30-18.

Under 13s
The CJ & MM Beck Tree Removal under 13’s showed a split personality the last game in their 18-10 loss to the Queanbeyan Kangaroos. In a directionless first half of frustration and heartache the boys were out enthused and found wanting in all aspects of the game. Patrick McPhillips kept the score line respectable at 18 -0 with several try saving tackles, he was assisted by Jack Callaghan, Ryan Prins and Kyle Jenkins.
Coach Jesse Collins was at a loss at the brake but found several words of enthusiasm he was quoted as “we need everybody to be at 100% and willing to put in for the entire game”. This did the trick and lead by inspired running from Thomas Bell, the momentum shifted and Yass dominated. Sustained efforts came from Reece Bush, Kane Dowling and Braith Ironside until injured. They were ably assisted by Charlie Beck and Harvey Blackmore.
Jack Callaghan’s welcomed return and strong running game improved our field position and allowed our defence to pressurize the attack. This pressure brought about several unforced errors that did not happen in the poor first half effort forcing the Kangaroos discipline to evaporate.
The Yass come-back trail was also hampered by the 50-50 calls going against the Magpies. Injuries also played there part with the new halves paring still looking for cohesion and flow being disrupted with the absence of Josh Sykes.
Yass put on 10 unanswered points but fell short with missed opportunities and impatience leading to mistakes. Coach Collins has identified key areas that will be the focus to get the boys back into the winning circle.

Round 3 saw the Aussie Home Loans U16s Magpies come away with a win over the Belconnen United Sharks.
Jackson Paton was outstanding on the night, topping the tackle count and being named Player’s Player.
Lachie Davis was again good in attack and defence, along with Blake Watson and Tyler Waters.
Forwards Tyson Ings and Will Goode made some great hitups with solid backup and support from Jordan Vitler, Cian Ebert and Peter Quinn.
Brodie Butt came off the wing and worked hard in the middle to help the forwards out.
Ryan Willcott, in his first season of league, is improving each week with some solid hitups.
The final score was Yass 30 – Belconnen 4. Tries went to Jordan Vitler, Tyson Ings and 2 tries each to Hayden Puckett and Cien Ebert. Three goals to Jayden Perceval.
While it is great to see the boys get a win, Yass are still to make the most of their time in possession by completing their sets without any dropped ball.

The Bello Mobile Beauty under 18's girls team travelled to play Belconnen on Friday night. The team was missing several top liners from their line-up so needed the team to step up.

By the end of the night she had scored 4 tries and kicked 7 goals for a personal tally of 30 points.
