Under 7’s
The Gregory & McCarthy Rams under 7’s travelled to Canberra to play Uni Owls in what turned out to be an exciting fun match for all involved. The owls started off quickly scoring straight from the kick-off, however Yass were able to hit back quickly with tries to Charlie and Ashton. Good defense was shown by Samuel and Ashton to keep the owls out, however the continual pressure saw the owls run in another try. The first scrum of the season was set, and after a few pointers the ball eventually came out. Harry managed to swoop on it and go through for his second try. Some good runs by Katelyn, Jake and Digby saw the Rams in a good position, which saw Harry go over just before half time.
Harry continued his good form from the kick off with a great run and eventual try. The game seesawed from this point on with both teams having some great runs. Samuel managed to make a great break and run half the field to score to level up the scores. A great run by Jasper saw Katelyn scoring her first try of the season. Digby continued with his great defense by preventing several tries, however Yass were unable to keep their lead. At full time the final score was a 7 all draw and, as they say in the classics, Rugby was the winner on the day.
Under 8’s
The Bogo Merinos Under 8 Rams game on the weekend was one to remember. It was their first taste of tackling. The West Maroon team were well drilled but Yass worked hard in defence before letting them in for a try. Jimmy Regan took advantage of a Penalty to Yass and took off and scored. Wests found their feet and put on 3 tries in the first half. Great running by Jeremy Bremner, Jimmy Regan, Nicki Marchei and Darrien King saw the Rams rewarded with 3 more tries. Declan Cooke tackled like a seasoned player and took on the biggest Wests Maroon Player. The team enjoyed their first game of tackle going down narrowly to Wests Maroon 6 tries to 4
Under 10’S
For our 3rd game this season the Yass Earthmover Under 10 Rams travelled to Canberra to play East at their home ground in Curtin. Yass were slow to start and Easts ran in a couple of quick tries in the first few minutes of the game. But as the Rams warmed up they picked up their defense and found their feet. The Rams scrums were strong and by the end of the second half they began to play really well as a team. Unfortunately the score doesn't reflect the enthusiasm of the team, which was displayed by a loud roar from new Ram recruit Hamish in the last 5 minutes of the match! Special mentions to Hamish, D’Artagnan and Charlie. Score: East 38 Yass 0
