The Yass Rams Under 8s arrived at Victoria Park on Saturday ready to play Uni Norths – Owls refreshed after a week off.
The boys had a great training the week before and they all carried it into their game on Saturday.
The Owls were the first team to score, but Jimmi Regan quickly levelled the score after a brilliant solo run from one end to the other.
Jeremy followed suit and Yass were up 2 tries to 1. The owls scored again to level the score at 2 all. Yass showed some great attacking through Jimmi, Jeremy and Nicki.
The boys really committed to their defence with some great tackling and cleaning out. They are really improving week on week in the tackling and their understanding of the game.
They were all level at 4 tries each thanks to another try to Jeremy. Nicki sealed the win in the dying minutes with a try in the corner. Yass 8s were victorious over the Uni Norths Owls 5 tries to 4. A great result at home.
Under 9s
The Bush Plumbing U9s took on Uni-Norths at Victoria Park on a wet and sodden Saturday morning as the rain cleared for the start of the game. Yass fielded a strong team and welcomed Amelia Waters in her first game with the squad. The first half saw two sparkling tries to Baxter Sicily and some fastastic tackling from the rest of team, with particular great try-saving tackles made by Morris Hyles and Owen Hopwood. At half time, Uni-Norths led 4-2. The second half saw Yass claw its way back to 4-4, thanks to another blitzing effort from Baxter and a memorable steal from Morris to touch down in the corner to make the scores level with about 5 minutes to play. Yass then had a number of further opportunities thanks to some great runs from George Locke, which unfortunately did not yield due results. Uni-Norths were then able to score two late tries to make the final score 6-4 at the siren. A great game overall played by the team, especially given the conditions. Let’s hope for some fine weather next week.
Under 10s
Yass hit the mud with a powerful scrum of Louis Sam and Charlie powering over the Wests ball both the push of Jack Tom and Hamish. The supply of ball allowed Charlie to slip under the posts and Poppy to streak around the defence for Yass's 10 points.
Wests attack picked up but was held at bay to half time with a 10 all score line. The second half slipped away despite scrambling defence by Angus, Oscar, Owen and D'Artagnon. Poppy put a set of three tackles together with the aid of brother Clancy to drag them to the sodden turf.
Yass eventually went down 29-10 despite Louis constant smile and Sam's darting runs.
