Worldskills National Competition will run October 5-9 at the Melbourne Showgrounds. The competition will select Gold Medal Students in rural skills learnt through their studies at schools across the state.
Yass High year 12 student Sarah Targett has been selected for competition. Having won the regional competition in Yass last September from a field of four, she will join students from Griffith, Forbes and Inverell for the NSW team. The team met up for the first time at Dubbo to hone their skills ahead of the Melbourne trip.
In October, students will be assessed in a range of skill areas that any farm employer would recognise as basic to any rural workplace. Whatever the outcome, young people are learning valuable skills that feed directly to the needs of the industry.
