Neil Stains says his pleas to the Member for Goulburn have gone unheard.
“At this stage, my family and I are still trying to come to terms with the effect this will have on us, in particular, my grandkids,” he said. “We feel like Pru has really let us down, the person who is supposed to be our representative.”
Despite the announcement last week, Mr Stains says he is still holding out hope that the decision can be reversed.
“I don’t know where to go from here,” he said.
“Whether we move north to Queensland or wait out the storm. We have a lot of friends up there in the industry that have been pushing for us to move and I have no trouble setting up in Queensland.”
“… I’ve never walked away from anything in my life and I’m not going to start now.”
The ban passed the Lower House 48 to 35 votes following a marathon debate on Tuesday night.
Mr Staines says he hopes to hold out until the next state election to make his voice heard.
“I’ll stay until I get a chance to get a vote, if that takes me two years than whatever ... My friends and my family will remind these politicians come voting time. In 2019, I will be letting people know what they have done to us. I won’t forget this.”
Ms Goward has said she supports the bill with a “heavy heart”.
“I’m sorry if he felt I let him down but we’re all doing our best to ensure people in the industry now get the support they need,” Ms Goward said.
“Ultimately, this is a government decision and I support the government.
While Ms Goward said she couldn’t divulge the information earlier, the Deputy Premier has announced a process for the development of assistance packages for breeders and trainers.
“I want to ensure breeders and trainers, like Neil and others in this region, make their needs clear to me and to the Premier so they don’t get overlooked,” Ms Goward said. “I have enormous sympathy for the good people in the greyhound industry who have been so badly let down by others.”
