Spencer Allen, Holly Regan and Grace Hodgkinson were part of the top 36 boys and 24 girls from regional NSW and the ACT who competed.
All players were given a taste of the sport at the next level working with ex-tour professionals Alun Jones and Annabelle Ellwood in two training blocks covering singles and doubles.
It was a first-time experience for the trio to play in the Super 10s, which is a Tennis Australia event for 2005–07 birth-year athletes and it forms part of the national U10 program of the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots programme.
Binalong player Holly Regan continued her rapid improvement during the carnival with a commendable second place in the girls’ team matches.
Grace Hodgkinson and Spencer Allen showed plenty of form in the doubles and were able to draw on some training techniques during competition.
The players were joined by local Yass coach Scott Eulenstein who managed and coached a boys side during the Super 10s.
Eulenstein said the players playing for final spots in the Super 10s was reward for their hard work.
“Holly was part of a team that did really well. They’ve improved and developed quite a bit to get that far. The students conducted themselves really well in class and have positive attitudes towards tennis,” he said.
During the two weekends, Eulenstein said they played to the best of their abilities.
“They’re great ambassadors for the game and get a lot of enjoyment from it. There’s also a good team atmosphere,” he said.
Eulenstein will now travel to Bathurst on the December 3–4 to manage the South West NSW Under 10s at the state finals in Bathurst. As for the Yass junior players, they will continue training until about mid-December.
“A lot of kids have shown interest in keeping their skills up and so they’ll join the January tennis camp,” Eulenstein said.
All local players are reminded that the summer holidays camp will take place at the Hume Tennis Club, Yass, starting 8.30am on January 23–25, 2017. All players will receive a prize during the camp. Lessons are for 5–16 year-olds. For enquiries and registration, please email Scott Eulenstein (scott.eulenstein@outlook.com) by Sunday, January 15, 2017.
