Now, it has its sights set on the water, with more than $3 million spent on tourism infrastructure at Burrinjuck Waters.
Friday, December 2, was the official launch of the $640,000 water treatment plant, providing potable water to park guests, and of the park’s new tourist vessel, NV Getaway, valued at $102,198.
The NV Getaway, will be a vital link across the dam for Hume and Hovell Track Walkers and visitors to other great destinations like the Wee Jasper Reserves and Careys Caves – a journey that previously couldn’t be undertaken in a day.
Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward said the Burrinjuck Water Treatment Plant was part of a $12 million program funded by the government’s Public Reserves Management Fund to upgrade and renew utilities at the inland parks managed by the Trust.
“Having water available to Australian Drinking Water Standards, and a new tourist service at such an important recreational destination and community asset, is a positive thing for the region,” she said.
NSW Crown Holiday Parks Trust CEO, Steve Edmonds said the Trust was committed to transforming its parks into ‘must go’ destinations.
“Around $2.9 million has been spent on Burrinjuck Waters for the new Water Treatment Plant and important electrical and sewer upgrades completed late last year,” Mr Edmonds said. “The addition of a boat to provide users transport across the dam, give day visitors and park guests services such as fishing charters, dam tours and transport between Wee Jasper and Burrinjuck will also help grow tourism.”
Manager of the Burrinjuck Holiday Park, Dean Brind said spots are still open for the first ever voyage.
“To be a part of the first tour group on the first two hour tour she takes on Burrinjuck Dam will be limited to 12 people, 16-years and over for this tour. It will Include a selection of nibbles and acoustic music. The cost is $60 per head and is BYO refreshments, with toilet facilities available on board,” he said.
“Bookings are essential on 6227 8114 and must be paid for at time of booking. The boat departs at 5.30pm on Saturday, December 10.”
