The tower will alleviate reception issues for residents across the Yass township who have been struggling since the digital retune in 2013.
It is the first of two towers to be erected, the second will be placed on Bowning Hill and cover the areas in and around Bowning.
Barry O’Mara, of Vision Plus, says it’s been a long time coming.
“We have to do a few tests and see whether there is any other fine tuning to do before people can start connecting,” he said. “People can’t automatically connect to the new system, they have to call an aerial technician who will be able to connect them.”
The new system has been successfully tested at the Yass Caravan Park, a black spot area since the digital retune.
Both Bowning and Yass Towers cost in excess of $60,000, funds received from the federal government under the Community Development Grants Program.
During the federal election in July 2016, Liberal Candidate Peter Hendy made promises to fund the project under the Turnbull Government.
Despite losing the seat to Labor’s Mike Kelly, the coalition still provided the funding for the project.
The contractor will continue testing the Yass re-transmission tower next week, with Council to provide further information to residents about requirements to pick up the new signal.
