Front rower with power and ball skills
The Magpies have signed New Zealand–based front-rower Saipani Aiolupo for the 2017 season. Saipani has been playing in the strong Fox Memorial Competition in NZ where he has gone on to make the Auckland and Counties Representative sides. This success also led him to play for the NZ Residents. Aiolupo is an exciting acquisition for the Magpies; he will add plenty of size, power and ball-playing ability to the forward pack. The club wishes Saipani well in 2017.
Centre the missing Peace of the puzzle
Twenty-eight year-old centre Willie Peace comes to the magpies with an extensive and impressive rugby league resume. He began playing NSW cup with the Cronulla Sharks in 2006–07 before moving to the Warriors in 2011. He spent five out of the next six years in their NSW Cup side and played in a grand final. Peace also represented Samoa in a test match against Tonga in 2015.
The signing of a player with this experience at such a high level is a massive boost for the young Magpies side. Peace will arrive in Australia just in time for pre-season training. The club welcomes Peace and his family to Yass.
Vatikani returns to the nest
Former Magpie Junior Vatikani returns to the club in the 2017 season. After last playing in the Magpies preliminary final side in 2012, Vatikani went on to play for the Goulburn Bulldogs during the 2013–15 seasons. During his time there, he played in two Canberra Cup grand finals. In 2015, he made the NSW Country representative team.
Vatikani will add plenty of size, speed and strike power to the Magpies. The club welcomes Vatikani and his family back to Yass and the Magpies family.
