Okay, so it’s been a bit hot lately! I like to make a frozen fruit smoothie and then find a cool spot inside to sit and browse the internet. And in the last few days I have discovered some exciting websites and am delighted to share them with you.

Radio Garden
Radio Garden is an audio delight. It’s an extraordinary website allowing everyone access to over 8,000 live radio stations around the world. By clicking the link: radio.garden, I am taken to the live section of the website where I am directed to the radio station closest to my location. From there using the interactive global map I am able to explore so many different radio stations, stations in New Zealand, Samoa, Kiribati or Chengdu, or Kabul in Afghanistan. How exciting to hear the voices of so many different people, and to hear their music, by simply floating around an interactive world map! By selecting links to history or jingles I can explore historic broadcasts and jingles across time and place. The stories tab features a number of interviews with people about the role of radio in their lives. Radio Garden goes to the top of my bookmarks!
From Farms to Freeways
I’ve included this site from University of Western Sydney, a study of change, because it may be of interest to our community given the increasing urbanisation of our shire. In the early 90’s, Deborah Chambers interviewed 34 woman who lived in the area between Parramatta and the Blue Mountains during the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. The website provides information about the women plus access to their interviews, both digitalised recordings and transcripts. It’s at omeka.uws.edu.au/farmstofreeways/exhibits/show/viewall
The Infinite Monkey Cage
Like a good laugh? Well, The BBC’s Infinite Monkey Cage might just be your sort of radio program! It's a funny, at times "witty, and irreverent look at the world through scientists' eyes" with hosts, Brian Cox, the renown physicist, and comedian Robin Ince. Expect some lively discussions with guest scientists about the effects scientific phenomena have on our lives. Each episode is about 30 minutes long and current and past episodes can be downloaded from the website. Find it at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00snr0w.
