Yass Highway Patrol has fined a Canberra man $872 after clocking him travelling 48km/h over the speed limit on the Barton Highway.

About 7.30am on Monday, February 20, police detected a 35-year-old man from the ACT travelling southbound on the Barton Highway near Capricorn. His speed was checked at 148km/h in the signposted 100km/h area.
The man was issued a $872 fine carrying five demerit points.
He told police he had bought the SS Commodore only recently and was not used to driving a V8 as his previous car was a diesel.
STANDING ON TRAY OF UTE
Yass Highway Patrol observed a Toyota Hilux being driven on Yass Street, Gunning with an 18-year-old male standing on the tray of the ute at 11pm on Friday, February 17.
A 17-year-old male provisional driver was issued with an infringement of $325 and three demerit points.
Operation Drink Drive 1 – NSW
Police in NSW have charged 230 drink-drivers and issued more than 2500 speeding infringements during Operation Drink Drive I.
The three-day, state-wide operation targeting drink-driving, speeding and other traffic offences commenced at 12.01am on Friday, February 17 and concluded at 11.59pm on Sunday, February 19.
Officers targeted major motorways, main roads and local streets across the state in order to drive down the road toll.
Acting Commander of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, was alarmed at the number of people caught drink-driving.
He said far too many were putting their own, and other, lives at risk.
