NRMA gathered cost data using their price tracking app with Yass ranked as the most expensive area to purchase fuel at $1.39 per litre of unleaded petrol.
At the other end of the scale penny pinchers may be able to save in the three cheapest towns on the list with Maitland boastig the lowest prices at $1.15 per litre.
Closing out the ranking close behind Maitland were Nowra and Goulburn at $1.16 and $1.18 per litre.
Managers of Yass United petrol station refused to comment when asked why they set a region topping price of $1.39 per litre going into the long weekend.
A spokeswoman for Caltex - who run petrol stations across the region including outlets in Goulburn, Maitland and Yass - told the Tribune in a statement “intense local competition” is one of a number of factors influencing fuel prices in regional NSW.
“The Australian petroleum market is highly competitive...profit turns out to be less than three cents per litre.”
A spokesman for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) advised consumers shop around to get the best deal.
“Reward those retailers offering the best-priced fuel, this will help motorists and also bring more competitive tension to the market,” he said.
