The Kangaroos were the eventual winners, coming out on top 24-18, but that didn’t stop the Magpies from putting up a dramatic fight.
The victory was a surprise for the Kangaroos, who finished one place below the Magpies on the ladder in fourth. However, they were able to come out on Saturday and outplay Yass when it counted most, despite the best efforts of the higher-ranked side.
The victory sends the Kangaroos into next week’s preliminary final against the Belconnen United Sharks, who were shocked by second-ranked Bungendore Tigers in another upset on Sunday.
The preliminary final will take place on Northbourne Oval at 9am on Sunday 17 September, and the winner of that clash will face the Bungendore Tigers in the grand final in a fortnight.
Yass will take away a lot of positives from another successful season, in which they were unlucky to have been beaten in the close semi-final which could have gone either way.
The grand final will take place on Saturday September 23 at Seiffert Oval. Bungendore Tigers have confirmed their place, and the match will start at 9am.
