The Nationals won with around 45 per cent of the primary vote. However this was a swing of about 20 per cent away from the party with the forced council amalgamations a likely factor. Equal second was the Country Labor Party and the Shooters and Fishers Party, both achieving around 2 per cent of the primary vote.
Our Greens candidate, Jeff Paslow closely tied for equal third place with the Christian Democratic Party. Jeff stood to ensure that voters in the electorate had the option to vote for a progressive party, supporting community members who might not feel represented by the other parties.
The results demonstrate the dissatisfaction with the government with a rusted-on Nationals seat now a marginal seat.
It also demonstrates people are looking for more options and that the voters are heading towards two extremes, extremes not conducive to a harmonious society.
This dissatisfaction with the NSW government and the Australian government is only going to get worse and parties that previously didn’t stand a chance may get up simply because people are angry and want to lodge a protest.
The Greens have the strongest platform on social equity, environmental sustainability and grassroots democracy and is the party to support if you want to let the government know your dissatisfaction but don’t want risk social/environmental chaos.
