The strong community spirit of those early settlers was echoed in the present as more than a hundred villagers joined together for a Heritage walk.

Tales were told of the old blacksmith’s shop, the original Sutton Hotel, a haberdashery shop owned by a Syrian hawker and letters from a soldier in the front during World War One, looking forward to being home in Sutton for the annual New Year’s Day races.

As in old times, everyone then congregated together for a delicious morning tea at the historic Village Hall.

Larrikin tales of days gone by were shared and many long lost friends were reunited.

Old photographs, maps and artefacts made a fascinating display.

St Peter’s Church, Sutton Public School, the Rural Fire Service and SES all joined in during the day.

Later, Paverty Bush Band led the community in a fun filled evening.

The original pioneer settlers along this confluence of the Yass River and the McLaughlin’s Creek were represented by family members as well as new residents, happy to have joined this thriving little village.

Sutton will continue their 150 years celebrations with a fun-filled Christmas party on December 2 at 4pm–7pm.

Remembering the past, local families and friends will have fun with old-fashioned races on the oval as in days gone by and will enjoy a delicious barbecue.

There’ll be entertainment, face-painting and a jumping castle.

The Memorial Gates at Sutton will be the location of a Dawn Service where the community will pay their respects to servicemen and women at a Dawn Service on Anzac Day 2018. More details to follow.
