Development Manager for ACT North and Districts Michael Minns commented that he believed the helmets represent a critical stage in the development of young cricketers in regional areas. 

“It’s designed to engage particularly the regional clubs with Cricket NSW and get them engaged really as a part of the NSW family and program,” Mr Minns said. 

“And basically create a better atmosphere and a better experience for them to enjoy their cricket.”

Yass will receive two top-of-the-line helmets, which Mr Minns said were of the same quality and standard as those of the international players. 

Across NSW, 1500 helmets will be distributed to junior cricketing clubs in total, all of which will bear a neck guard for safety. 

This is part of an emphasis on safety which Cricket NSW is hoping to underline in future. 

“Just to make sure that all the young kids coming in and experiencing cricket – some for the first time – that they’re up to date with all the latest safety measures and they’ve got all the latest equipment.” 

CEO of Cricket NSW Andrew Jones released a statement on the deal, in which he expressed his delight at the partnership and its implications for young cricketers. 

“Cricket is a sport for everyone and together with McDonald’s, we are committed to making the game enjoyable and safe for every team taking to the field this season,” Mr Jones said. 

“With new helmet standards being introduced nationwide in 2018, this initiative is a collaborative effort to ensure that Junior clubs play with the latest and safest in helmet technology.”

Licensee of Yass McDonald’s Maree Cables said that “Ensuring the safety of our local teams is of the utmost importance.” 

“We are looking forward to another safe and successful cricket season this year!”
