The ACT side was unsuccessful against WA, losing by 252 runs after a rollicking first-innings double century from Will Bosisto gave the hosts a firm lead.
But Pinson picked up 3/103 across both innings and was pleased with his own performance.
He described a conversation with his coach, in which they discussed the importance of having plans and executing those plans as often as possible.
“I felt like I was more in control and aware of this in WA than in Canberra,” Pinson said.
“But [I] still have plenty to work on.”
The previous match in Canberra against NSW Metro gave Pinson an idea of what to expect in Perth, “but that didn’t make things any easier.”
Among the numerous challenges to which Pinson had to adjust were the wickets, which are markedly different in the west.
“The wickets are much bouncier over there so it took a few overs to find the right length for me to bowl,” Pinson said.
“Once I found this I feel like I bowled a few good spells.”
Despite suffering from a fever for the duration of the game, which was no doubt exacerbated by the West Australian heat, Pinson remained positive and said “you just have to find a way to adapt in those sorts of situations.”
Pinson’s returns for the match were improved from his debut, but he is aware that he is still far from the finished product, and will value some time off between now and the new year to improve.
“I have plenty to work on in training over the next little while,” he said.
“I have a few minor things to have a little look at in terms of my action but I certainly won't be making any major changes until the off-season.”
Playing for his state represents a sharp learning curve for Pinson, but there was also a blast from the past in the match against WA.
“I played with Joe Kershaw [for ACT/NSW Country],” he said.
“I last played with Joe for the Under 12 Rep team in Cowra, so it was great to be on the same side again in a slightly different situation.”
