Yass Public School teacher Diane Hickey said the kids “had a fantastic time, it was amazing.”
“Some of the kids had been last year, but some of them hadn’t been, so they had no idea what to expect.”
The children travelled down with Ms Hickey on Tuesday, from which point they rehearsed and prepared for four shows across Friday and Saturday.
The performances took place at the Sydney Super Dome, where the matinee was sold out on Friday.
Ms Hickey said some of the kids were awed by the sheer number of people in the performance and the talent among them, but that the children gave a good account of themselves and didn’t let their nerves affect their performances.
“There was some talk about being nervous,” Ms Hickey said.
“But once they got over that first show, they were very excited about performing and wanted to catch up with their family after it and talk about what they liked best.”
The success of this year’s event has spurred Ms Hickey to begin preparing for another invitation next year.
She said that all of the kids who attended couldn’t get enough of performing and want to return for another turn as soon as possible.
“I would take them again, they’re a wonderful group of kids to work with,” she said.
“We’re already thinking about how we can make it better next year for the kids.”
Since the children have been invited for the last three years, a fourth next year would be no surprise.
