Classic Yass lives on

So we've included some more stories in today's paper, which I think is appropriate.

Because there are layers to this event that can get missed.

You will see from Jane Baker's Webs, Weeds and Wisdom piece this week that she was affected by the Storyteller event on the Sunday afternoon.

I know of others who were swept away by Synaesthesia, a unique synthesis of music and art, on Sunday evening.

And I talked to many in Banjo Paterson Park on the Saturday who were just drooling over the vintage cars. You couldn’t pop a bonnet without bumping into someone who was having major regrets over letting that old beast go that they’d owned 'back in the day'.

And who can forget the look of sheer awe on many a kids face as they realised that grown ups were actually encouraging them to go tearing down a Yass Street in a billy cart - and the faster they went the more everyone cheered!

A special moment for me was when I stopped Steve Bugden at the derby and asked about the trophy he was holding. It turned out to be the 'Jack's Pa' trophy, and discovering the story behind it was a real piece of Classic Yass treasure (story page 4).

The ‘Hanging of the Quilts’ by Yass Quick Quilters also turned out to be one of the real success stories of Classic Yass 2012, with far more visitors than they could ever have imagined (story page 5).

Yep, Classic Yass has become a bit of a sprawling beast with so much to take in but everywhere you look there are stories unfolding.

We love to hear the human stories behind the events that bring us together. Whether you were exhibiting your art, showing off your car, enjoying some live entertainment, whizzing down  Rossi Street in a billy cart, or any of the other myriad experiences that make up Classic Yass, we'd like to hear them.
