Where has the year gone?
Let’s not get caught up in the moment and forget about what Christmas is truly about – the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ.
In the lead up to Christmas this year, use the time of Advent to reflect on Jesus.
Not run around frantically worrying about what you will be getting for a present!
Advent is a tradition that originated in France and Rome.
It was used as a six week devotional period prior to Christ’s mass.
People used to fast, before enjoying a Christmas feast with their family on Christmas day!
Over time, this tradition has worn away; the current tradition of Advent had been created by Pope Gregory I.
He wrote the liturgical materials and set the four week length.
The Church thereafter, adopted the liturgical colours of violet and rose for the period.
However, tradition seems to be wearing away again, as people become too busy to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
We all know that the true meaning of Christmas involves the celebration for the arrival of Jesus Christ.
But we can all do well to celebrate by spending quality time with our families in the weeks leading up to Christmas and having a splendid day together once Christmas comes around!
Remember that Christmas is about giving and not receiving.
Get ready for Christmas, after all, it’s less than a month away!
