Murray cod (open season): over the past seven days there have been four cod caught over the magic one-metre mark, landed and released in the main basin of Burrinjuck Dam.

It started with 103 and a 100cm cods being caught on the December 9. Followed up with my 115cm on December 11 and another 101cm fish was caught on December 15, by Tony Bennett from Wagga Tackle World. Tony also managed another 75cm fish on Sunday.
Trolling large spinner baits has been the common factor with all the big fish. I have also had a few stories of big fish hitting lures and winning the fight with no photo opportunity at all.
Unfortunately if the Murray cod end up with the lure down their throat and the leader in their mouth you are not going to have much of a chance of landing the big one.
There is also a rumour of a 1.3 metre fish being landed during the week by a local TV fishing personality. I have seen the photo, but no confirmation that it was landed here at Burrinjuck.
There are good numbers of legal size cod also being caught on spinner baits trolled and cast, as well as hard bodied lures such as orgees.
Yellow belly: still comparatively quiet. Some good sized fish have been caught during the weekend while trolling. Cam from Junee managed two yellow belly (54 and 58cm) at Scrubby’s on yabbies.
Redfin: Zach from Junee found a school of redfin at Little Scrubby. By trolling stucky’s and small AC Invaders, they managed 22 fish in the morning session. There has been the occasional fish being caught elsewhere but certainly not in those numbers.
Carp: reports coming through of carp taking lures again. Typically they like the brighter fluro colours, pink and bright greens. Fly fisherman also having success as are the bait fishermen. Some real big fish were landed this week over 80 centimetres.
Park news: just sorting out the Christmas and New Year activities. DJ Ando and Singer Chad Croaker will be playing at the Burrinjuck Waters State Park on New Year’s Eve. Movie nights will again be held in the Conference Centre.
A blue light disco or two will be held for the kids. Zumba classes will also be on throughout the holidays. Overnight camping will cost $21 for a car and two adults.

Current inflow: 529 ml per day.
Water visibility: up to one metre.
Weather: fine and hot until Christmas day. Temperatures will be above 30 degrees Celsius for the weekend, before peaking at around 36 degrees Celsius on Monday. There will also be winds up to 16 kilometres per hour at the weekend.
