The group, calling itself Strikeforce Yankee, is based on Shearsby Crescent, but most trucks will be mobile, roaming that part of town in preparedness.
The group is made up of fire crews from Yass, Goulburn, Narranderra, Boorowa, Young and Temora.
Yass Fire Station Commander Allan Carey said the strikeforce’s aim is to wait and try to ensure no property is lost.
“We are focused on property protection,” he told the Tribune early Wednesday afternoon.
“The priority is, if the fire impacts Yass, we have protection here on the western front.”
Mr Carey is happy with the set up on Shearsby Crescent and believes things are under control.
“We are confident everything will be fine. We have the resources we need to deal with any problems we might come across.”
He said his team, Yass Fire Brigade, was in Tarcutta yesterday afternoon and was at Black Range Road until around midnight.
Inspectors Graham Jarrett and Stephen Hayes are overseeing Strikeforce Yankee, and they are also confident that Yass is well protected.
“Should a fire come near us, we will be able to properly protect properties and also stop it from coming into Yass town.”
Along with residential properties on the western side of town, Transgrid, a fertiliser factory, and a mushroom farm are also priorities.
