The ladies were conducting free swimming lessons in the remote town of Yarrabah.
Yarrabah is known by locals as ‘paradise by the sea’ surrounded by its picturesque and lovely beaches. However, like a lot of beaches and rivers up north, the water is too dangerous due to saltwater crocodiles.
Yarrabah is one of Australia’s largest indigenous communities, with around 45,000 people inhabiting the native land. Yarrabah is about a 45-minute drive south from the city of Cairns.
While in Yarrabah, Tia and Kate conducted swimming lessons, personally met a lot of young children and also lent a helping hand to the local PCYC. They accompanied them on an excursion to the local water park, which the children had never been to before.
The couple also helped to organise a clean-up day around the beautiful fresh water creeks. Once clean the volunteers then started teaching lessons in the creek as well as the local swimming pool.
Spencer Swim Safe organised an agreement with the council to allow free entry to anyone who came to have a free swimming lesson with the volunteers.
