The Yass Touch Football Association is comprised of a number of volunteers including Greg Smith (president) Bob Monkley (secretary), Cathy Cooke (catering officer) and Laurie Atkins (vice president). This core group of people expands to over 20 volunteers during different times of the year.
Mayor Rowena Abbey said the first Yass Touch Football Carnival was held in 1989 with 29 teams.
“Since this time the competition has grown a lot. In 2012 over 104 teams participated in the event. The annual event attracts an estimated 2000 people to Yass each year, providing a considerable boost to the hospitality industry in Yass,” Cr Abbey said.
The Yass Touch Football Association has contributed funds to help improve our sporting field at Walker Park, including construction of a new amenities building, installation of lighting and watering systems.
More recently the association has assisted with the installation of a PA system.
