Show approaches!
With the 111th Gunning Show on Sunday February 17, Upper Lachlan Shire Council staff members have been hard at work freshening up signs, mending fences and generally getting the grounds in order. Just a nice drop of rain would complete the picture. See you there with bells on!
Veteran cars visit
Beautifully restored veteran cars caused quite a stir on the streets of Gunning last weekend as owners had lunch in Gunning. Enthusiast Warren Irish, who came in his Model T Ford, said club members really enjoyed visiting villages like Gunning to see what he called "the real Australia".
But wait, there’s more…
Remember in 2011 when all those old trucks cruised through Gunning in the 'Haulin' the Hume' run? It's on again for 2013 on Saturday April 27. This time the convoy of 250 trucks and busses will stop in Gunning for lunch. Organiser Bruce Gunter and his father Geoff were in Gunning recently to see how arrangements are going, meeting with local organiser and enthusiast Bernie Boyce.
Unwelcome change
The 28th president of the USA, Woodrow T Wilson once said "If you want to make enemies, try to change something”. It isn't quite as bad as that but one recent change has a few of us pretty hot under the collar. The current arrangements for community transport end on February 28 and, until then, it was supposed to be business as usual. But not for the volunteers who take seniors to a weekly activity day in Gunning who seem to have fallen between two organisational stools.
As one of these volunteers, I must say that I find it extraordinary that at five minutes to midnight in the dying days of the old arrangement, somebody made a decision without any discussion to change procedures for these particular volunteers.
A different organisation, Homecare, will look after the future community transport needs of the district so let's hope this kink in arrangements can be sorted out come the handover on March 1.
