On the theme of Morocco, each primary school in Yass was invited to enter a poster competition. This year, Yass CWA received 264 entries from Bowning, Berinba, Mt Carmel and Yass schools.
Kindy and year 1 students received a picture to colour in. years 2/3, 4/5 and 6 were asked to create a poster and answer some simple questions. The winners and their families were recently invited to a morning tea to receive their certificates and a donation of books for each school library and to hear from Denis Carol, a teacher from Goulburn High school who travelled in Morocco in 1999 and 2006. His talk was accompanied by a slide show with beautiful pictures of the coastal, mountain and desert regions he visited and tales of staying with locals and learning some Moroccan Arabic.
Four of these posters were presented at the CWA Southern Tablelands Group International Lunch to held in Yass recently.
All other prize winning posters are on show in Yass Library.
