Instructor school

It was an excellent weekend for instructors-in-training, with a full program of lectures, workshops and instructional sessions.

There were over 20 keen, up-and-coming instructors in attendance, from all over our Zone 16, as well as other zones and one participant came from as far away as Coffs Harbour to learn from one of the country's leading coaches, Sarah Venamore.

Sarah travelled from Armidale for the Yass school and is a current Pony Club State Coach, NCAS and EA accredited coach and published author.

“This weekend was an excellent opportunity to learn from one of the best, not to be missed”, said Pony Club state president and zone chief instructor, Di Cullen.

Di was very happy with the weekend, and was pleased that so many volunteer instructors came to train with Sarah who is so accomplished and experienced.

The school was in preparation for the examination weekend coming up in August.

“All these people are volunteers who enjoy pony club and know what it can do for young people in this country. Our participants are keen to learn and instruct riders at their respective Pony Clubs, and it is great to see how willing everyone is to give their time and travel to come to our schools.

“I would particularly like to thank all those volunteers- the trainee instructors, the riders who played guinea pig for our school weekend and the Yass Club for putting on such a good event,” added Di.

Yass' senior instructor Debbie Tonkin spoke with the same sentiment, she said all participants took home some valuable information and gained good experience in running their own lesson with the young riders.

“Our committee did a fantastic job getting the grounds ready for the school and the catering was great.

“It was a big undertaking and thank-you to everyone who put so much time in.”

Yass club also acknowledges the assistance of Yass Veterinary Hospital and Subway Yass and thanks them for their ongoing support.

This year has been busy so far for Yass Pony Club, with Yass Show, Zone Camp and the instructor school, and there are more events planned for the year.

September will see the club hosting their annual camp, October is the gymkhana and November 3 is the date for the club's 50th anniversary dinner at Yass Golf Club.
