No jinx for A-graders

Yass Touch Association president Greg Smith said he was happy with the way the grades evened out the playing field and almost every game was a flip of the coin.

"It was a really successful year and all the grand finals had pretty close results so we were really happy with how it finished," he told the Tribune.

As Smith predicted in the A-grade finals, women's team Jinxed were too strong and the men's game went down to the wire.

In the men's A-grade grand final, Inappropriate Touching (led by Chris Rawlinson and Matt Cooke) edged Masters Apprentices (led by Scott Naughton and James Byrne) 6-5.

It was a disappointing end to the competition for Masters Apprentices, who led the division from start to finish during the regular season.

There was a notable omission from Masters Apprentices, with 2013 NSW representative Ben Wylie recovering from a recent knee operation. Smith told the Tribune it was a big loss for the side.

"He's so good in the middle and other than Naughto he's probably the team's best scooter," he said.

In the women's, Jinxed have once again confirmed that there is a significant gulf in class between themselves and their nearest rivals.

When the Tribune talked to Smith in the lead-up to the finals, he said the best eight players in Yass were playing for Jinxed. It showed, as they became champions yet again, beating the Ninja Turtles 4-0.

In the B-grade men's final, I Don't Even Know outlasted a five-man Hotsteppers team 5-3. And Roses Café downed Heavenly Bodies 4-1 in the women's.

All attention now turns to the 2014/15 season, with Smith explaining that the organisation of a mixed competition on a different weeknight was at the top of the agenda.

The president wants to see more people put their hands up to be on the committee, as there will be important decisions to be made later this year.
