A three day (triduum) commemoration beginning Thursday evening with the Lord’s Supper and concluding on Easter Sunday is the highlight of the week.
Through listening to our story and celebrating the rites of this week we relive the central mystery of our redemption.
Next week I will return to Timor Leste, travelling this time with two parishioners.
The Easter events impact on the Timorese in a different way to Australians because they have experienced intense suffering for 500 years.
As a people they can identify with Christ and the cross and the cruelty of evil and associated injustices.
At the same time the smiles of these wonderful people and their hope for a better future is an Easter story in itself.
What does Easter mean to you?
Is it simply about bunnies and chocolate eggs or do these symbols of new life lead to a reflection of what God has done for us.
Through Christ’s suffering and death he took upon himself the sins of the world that we might live forever.
Take a look at the outstretched arms of the Saviour on the cross and sense the embrace of a God who loves each of us unconditionally.
