A cold and wet day at Harden's McLean Oval awaited the Yass rugby league and touch football teams. The Magpies went down 24-14, while the Girlpies defeated Harden for the second time this year 4-2.

TOUCH FOOTBALL
The Yass Girlpies continue to lead the George Tooke Shield touch football competition after beating the Harden Hawkettes 4-2 at the weekend.
Although the Girlpies are still tied with the Binalong Jersey Girls on 16 competition points, they have extended their points differential lead by 12 touchdowns.
It is the second time this season that Yass has defeated the Hawkettes, who now sit two point adrift of the Girlpies and Binalong.
On a bitterly cold day in Harden, the girls took control from the outset and always had their noses in front. There were a lot of errors in the slippery conditions but they seemed to handle it better, edging the home side in both halves.
Tries went to Marnie Pack, Merin Rayner Jess Rootsey and Liana Wylie, and Players' Player went to Sartu Beck.
RUGBY LEAGUE
A late rally from the Yass Magpies wasn't enough to overcome a committed Harden Hawks outfit, as the home side ran out winners 24-14.
Down 12-0 at halftime and then 18-0 early in the second half, the Magpies couldn't get in the arm wrestle. Then back rower Josh Newling beat three defenders from the middle of the park and set Phil Vatikani down the left, who linked up with flyer Tim Regan to score in the corner.
From there the Magpies gained some confidence and again it was Regan that added the points. A swift backline play created space for the winger, who produced an 'in and out' to beat the Hawks fullback on the outside.
At 18-8, the Magpies could sense a comeback. Both teams continued to press but neither team could find a way through. The away side then received some good fortune with five minutes left in the match. Joe McDonough got his body in the way of a clearing kick, and the ball bounced up perfectly for the halfback, who dived over next to the posts.
With four minutes remaining the score was 18-14 and the Maggies would have fancied their chances. Unfortunately an error off the kick-off, handed back possession to the Hawks 10 metres out from their own line. From the resulting set of six, a grubber bounced awkwardly and a chaser dived on it millimetres before the dead ball line to put the match to rest.
The result means that the Hawks have jumped past the Magpies into second spot on the ladder, with both teams still to play Bungendore and Binalong again before the end of the regular season.
