Both were recently selected in the Southern Stars and more specifically a Core Choir which will accompany performances throughout the Arena Spectacular #webelieve2014 concert, held on August 29 at the Win Entertainment Centre.
Both students sent in video auditions and were lucky enough to get the call to attend shortlisted auditions at Albion Park High School. Both then faced six judges and sung two songs. Not long after that, they got the news they wanted to hear.
Maddie was particularly excited when the Tribune caught up with the two students earlier this week.
“I remember my mum rang me and said ‘you got in’ and I said ‘what?’ and she said ‘you got in’ and I was like ‘oh my gosh’, it was cool.”
Veanka was also excited and said she drew on her past experience.
“Because I was used to X-Factor I thought ‘Oh this is actually quite easy’ and I wasn’t nervous which was good.”
The girls will have to learn 21 songs as part of the core choir and will travel to Wollongong for two rehearsals in the lead up to the shows being held on August 29 and 30.
Both will have to keep up-to-date with their school work if they want to participate in the performance.
