This is not about a duplication of the highway anytime soon. The recently released call for community input refers mainly to improvements to the existing road.
Of the paltry $8 million being spoken about recently by the Member for Hume on upgrades to the existing road - half has been spent already on the works of doubtful value in Murrumbateman (am I wrong, but doesn't that curve lean even more now, and what are those lumps?) and the other half has been committed to the McIntosh Circuit works. So no new money at all. Only existing allocations being spent on piecemeal solutions.
I recommend that anyone who completes the survey not fall into the trap of agreeing to just portions of the road being improved. Demand a duplication of the whole route.
We need a commitment to a full duplication - not bits and pieces over years. If there are funds for various politically opportune projects announced at the drop of a hat by the Federal Government, there are funds available for the Barton Highway.
