The brigade was called out to five separate fires in 24 hours earlier this week, two of which were serious incidents.
The first occurred on Sunday night at about 7pm at 24 Discovery Drive in Yass while a family was having dinner. A man went to check on a battery that was charging in the garage when he noticed the fire. He attempted to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher but wasn't able to and emergency services were contacted.
The man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Yass Hospital and treated.
The crew was able to keep the blaze to within the garage and the adjoining baby's room, which were both gutted. There was a small amount of water damage and extensive smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
Mr Hewett said his team was happy with that result.
"The fact that we kept the fire away from the rest of the house was a really good result," he said.
"It's also a bonus that it didn't catch on to any of the neighbouring properties because that's a danger as well."
At about the same time on Monday night the fire brigade was again called out, this time to a fire at 45 Grand Junction Road, Yass.
The residents noticed the fire in their shed and immediately called emergency services. Along with the assistance of some neighbours, they attempted to put out the blaze with water hoses but both the shed and a car were destroyed.
Mr Hewett said the busy couple of days was timely reminder to residents to take every precaution possible.
"All this highlights the importance of having working fire and smoke alarms installed, keeping your home clean and free of debris and also cleaning up your gutters and leaves and things like that."
