Yass Knockout to welcome 104 touch football teams

Team nominations have closed for another year and ACT Business Development Manager at Touch Football Australia, Rod Wise, wasn't surprised by the continued interest.

"It's got a reputation of just being a really good social event," he said.

"There's also the $5000 in prizemoney as well, that always brings people along even if it's not the most important thing.

"But really it's mainly the whole social part of it, and the camping at the ground that's popular as well."

There will be 48 mixed, 31 men's and 25 women's teams taking part in the Australia Day weekend competition. Of all these, 34 are new to the competition.

Yass teams which have confirmed their entry are the Ninja Turtles, Smokin Darts & Breakin Hearts, Kiss My Pass and the always-competitive Eagles outfit.

While the famous Hot Custard side, which sometimes travels from England to make an appearance, won't be coming this year four teams are coming from Adelaide and 11 from Melbourne.

"There's probably around 8 top men's teams coming, about 16 really good mixed teams coming and that's why lots of these teams come from so far away. They want to play the best."

Wise added that Yass was perfectly equipped to host such a huge event.

"Yass is great, everything's there, food, accommodation and also the hotels and the club. It's great for an event like the Knockout."

The Tribune will be running a special Yass Knockout edition Friday week which will feature stories, teams and draws.
