The ActewAGL Yass Roos had an extra weekend off when Cooma forfeited their match scheduled for May 2 at Joe O’Connor Park. After the Anzac weekend the enforced two weekend break did not do them any good as they came up against the Goulburn Swans in fine form at Joe O'Connor Park last Saturday. Except for the second quarter the Swans showed the Roos a clean pair of heels as they set about racking up a very handsome win. The final score was Goulburn 17.17 (119) to Yass 5.7 (37).

The Roos were slow out of the blocks again and Goulburn stamped their authority early to have a handy lead at the end of the first quarter, 6.5 (41) to 1.2 (8). The Roos turned the tables in the second and managed to outscore the Swans but still trailed at half time 4.5 (29) to 7.8 (50).
From there it was pretty much one way traffic to Goulburn's end of the ground, as they added five goals in each of the last two quarters while the Roos could only score one.
Darren Pfeiffer worked hard all game in defence and Toby Serafin took many strong marks across the halfback line. Damian Philippa had another strong game in the ruck while Matt Bosustow was hard at the ball across half forward adding three goals for the Roos. Ryan Forlonge took the Players' Player award and Steve O'Brien and Daniel Smith put in their usual fine efforts. The Roos showed some glimmers of what they can do in the second quarter but the new side this year needs to work on performing as a team and getting basic skills right. On too many occassions kicks went straight to opposition players in uncontested positions.
It is off to Ainslie next week. The game gets underway at 2.15 pm. Maybe the Roos will enjoy the wide open spaces of Alan Ray Oval to bring home a win. I’ll see you at the footy. Get along and support your local football team.
The Roos held their annual Player Lottery on Saturday evening at the Yass Golf Club. A fully subscribed list of 24 players was sold on the night and three lucky buyers already had wins with Toby Serafin, Damian Philippa and Ryan Forlonge taking Players' Player honours in the first three games played this year. You can check out the full list of player owners on the Roos web site (yassroosafc.asn.au). The Yass Roos sincerely thanks their generous supporters and sponsors.
